NFL: Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants Preview

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

The Carolina Panthers and The New York Giants will square off for their season opener on Sunday. These two teams are coming off of disappointing seasons. Each team will be looking to forget what happened last season and hope to start off this one with a solid win.

The New York Giants are coming off of an extremely disappointing season. The Giants were up and down last season in extreme measures. The Giants had streaks where they looked almost unbeatable. The team would really click offensively and play great defense at times. Unfortunately the team also went on awful streaks.

These streaks would particularly affect the defense. The defense was absolutely porous at times and they looked like they couldn’t stop anyone.

If the Giants hope to make a difference this season they will need a solid start defensively.

The Panthers are coming off of a season where they lost two of the faces of their franchise. Jake Delhomme was the starting quarterback for the team for many seasons. Unfortunately he really has started to fade over the past few years before completely falling apart recently. He could not make things happen for the team at all.

The Panthers will also lose the face of their defense, Julius Peppers. Peppers was one of the best lineman in the league for years while playing for the Panthers. The team will have a big hole to fill in his absence and will show what they have prepared this Sunday against the Giants.

New York Giants – NFL Season – Preview

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

For the NFC coming into 2010, the New York Giants are the wildcard. Giants came out blazing, last year. They were also very popular in football betting odds. They looked as though they were well on their way towards a playoff run and they won their first 5 games. Unfortunately, for the Giants, their fortunes changed and they ran into the Saints.

The Giants were never able to rebound and they went on to lose 4 games in a row. On the season, the team finished with a poor record of 8-8. While scoring less than 10 points, their last two games were blowouts in which they surrendered 40 points or more.

Eli Manning will be one of the big factors in the success of the team. Last season when Manning made a lot of turnovers, the Giants’ losses came often. Manning actually put together a great season in 2009 and he has all of the tools. This year however, Manning will need to limit his turnovers, or the Giants may not be able to step to the next level.

Obviously, coming into 2010 the defense will be a question as well. During the season, there are a few questions surrounding the resilience of the Giants, after giving up 40 or more points 5 times. It seemed that when the opponents started rolling the Giants had no method to stop them, although the Giants did show stretches of good play on defense. As a play of a championship caliber team, it doesn’t sound like the same.

In 2010, the Giants will decide their own fate. They will be a contender, if they can buckle down and play tough.

NFL – Mini Camps – New York Giants

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

The New York Giants, during their minicamp, had a lot of good flashes that recently took place. Tom Coughlin he has been pleased with the results that his team has brought to the camp, although he has never been easy to impress.

For the New York Giants, a solid batch of young players will be positive. The Giants really seemed to fall apart, towards the end of the last season. If they can add some depth and energy to that team that struggled to keep it up for the whole 16 game schedule, they will be better off in the 2010 season.

NFL betting odds star, Jason Pierre-Paul, their defensive end, has been impressive so far in mini camps. In the first round, Pierre-Paul was drafted by the Giants. He spent much of his time working on stance technique and attacking from the snap. As over the years the Giants have had some great defensive ends, Pierre-Paul will have high expectations.

Tim Brown has been one of the players that have been particularly impressive in the eyes of Tom Coughlin. In these mini camps, Tim Brown is a young wide receiver that has shown an ability to catch the long ball. Eli Manning can always use another target and will be pleased if Tim Brown can step in as a reliable option and a deep threat.

For the New York Giants in minicamp, there were no particularly negative events and it looks as though the team is ready to take on the 2010 season.

2010 NFL Draft preview: New York Giants

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

The team last year that had the ability to put points on the board was proved to be the New York Giants, but did not have the defense needed to put teams away, surrendering 427 points on the season.  Struggles are at this point with the Giants on both sides of the ball and some help will be needed in the draft to improve the 8-8 record that they posted last season.

After only supplying 32 sacks last season the pass rush of the New York Giants could use some work. No defensive player produced More than 7 sacks on the season were not produced by any defensive player last year and a defensive end could be used by the Giants to help out with this struggle. There is a chance that a defensive end like football betting star Derrick Morgan of Georgia Tech could be available at the 15th pick and he would be a huge help to this defense.

It was simply didn’t get it done last season running back Brandon Jacobs. To rely on a back that averaged just 3.7 yards a carry last season is difficult. With a balanced pass and running attack the Giants could potentially control the clock, allowing their defense more time to rest. Jahvid Best from California could be a good pickup at this spot if available for the Giants in the 2nd round.

A weakness for the Giants in the upcoming season is also the Linebacker position.  The opportunity to add some strength and depth to the position could have been there with their 3rd round pick by landing A.J. Edds from Iowa.

Another option for this NFL betting team that did not seem to have defensive flow or chemistry all season would just be given by a guy like Edds.
